Grand Bend Sunset Smoothie

Orange on the bottom, pink floating on top, in a tall glass. It looks like a trick and it's really just a lesson about how thick to make things.

Grand Bend Sunset Smoothie

Read the full instructions and gather your supplies before starting.

Step 1 of 5

Blend the mango, banana and orange juice until thick — thick enough that a spoon stood in it tips over slowly instead of falling flat.

Add juice a splash at a time. Runny blends punch straight through each other and you get one muddy colour.

How to make it

Why that works

The layers hold because the mango blend is denser — more fruit solids, less liquid. Pouring gently over a spoon keeps the lighter pink blend from building up enough speed to break through the boundary.

Lambton County twist

The colour order is copied from an actual Grand Bend sunset over Lake Huron: orange sitting low on the water, pink stacked above it.
