Salt Watercolour Galaxies

Wet paint, a shake of table salt, and by the time it dries you've got a night sky full of stars you didn't paint. It looks like a trick and it's really just salt being thirsty.

This one is all yours

Nothing sharp, nothing hot, nowhere far. Tell someone what you're up to, then go ahead and do it on your own.

How to make it

6 steps. Tap one when it's done.

Why that works

Salt pulls water toward itself. Each grain sucks the wet paint out of the paper around it, and the colour follows the water, leaving a pale ring. When the salt comes off, the ring stays.

Lambton County twist

On a clear night, away from Sarnia's lights, the real Milky Way is visible from most of the county. Paint what you saw.
