Paper Plate Stegosaurus

Fold a paper plate in half, cut a zigzag along the fold for the plates on its back, and the rest of the dinosaur is just paint and a couple of cut-out legs. It stands up on its own.

Why that works

A folded plate stands because the fold gives it two sides leaning on each other, like a roof. Flat paper falls over; bent paper holds itself up. Real stegosaurus plates probably worked as heaters, soaking up sun and warming the blood running through them.
